Why I Volunteer

It’s a busy time. Holiday parties, family get-togethers, as well as taking a hard look at the previous year to better plan for the year ahead.

I’m doing all of it, so I get it, and there are those moments when I feel stretched “too thin.”

But that’s okay because it’s all good and I feel so blessed with how the year has gone.

I also know that there are people and organizations that need help and I feel that I can give back by volunteering whether it’s by donating money or time.

Many organizations need both.

If I’m stretched “too thin” so be it.

I volunteer for local organizations that have an impact in my community. I also volunteer for organizations that have a much greater reach.

Both are important.

As a Mom to two young girls, I want them to grow up seeing me engaged in these types of efforts and whenever possible, I include them in my volunteer activities.

I encourage their participation and help them to look for their own ways where they can be philanthropic and volunteer as well.

It’s important for them to recognize that we have so much, while others do not, and to not take it for granted.

Volunteering is one way that they can remain conscious of their good fortune and help those that may not be as fortunate.

I hope my girls hold on to these behaviors for life, and to recognize the impact that all of us can have when we work together for the greater good.

Happy holidays to all.
